INDIA'S EMPLOYMENT SECTOR DURING COVID19
The present condition of the Indian economy seems like getting back to the
1950s when unemployment was at its peak and India's share in the world
economy declined to 4.2% in the 1950s.
The pandemic brought back the same condition where millions of Indians have
lost jobs in the employment sectors since April 2020 due to the economic
crises caused by the corona-virus. A survey of more than 32000 workers in 17
countries says that almost 95% of workers in India have felt concerned over
their financial or job security during the pandemic. The survey shows that four out
of five are unemployed due to COVID and lockdown situation.
GLOBAL CONDITION
The corona virus pandemic brought the economic crises not only in India but the
whole world is suffering from it. Many countries like Africa and much of South
America are suffering from the international economic fallout and are likely to
face heightened job losses if the pandemic strikes harder there.
l ILO [ International Labor Organization ] ON COVID19
The largest ILO data on the labor market impact of the COVID 19 pandemic
reveals the devastating effect on workers in the informal economy and
hundreds of million enterprises, almost 1.6 billion informal workers have
suffered massive damage to their capacity to earn a living. Speaking in Geneva
via virtual meeting on 7 April 2020, ILO general Guy Ryder noted that at the
start of the year before COVID19 spread worldwide global employment already
stood at around 190 million.
RETAINMENT OF EMPLOYEES IN THE POST COVID LANDSCAPE
As surveyed by the bureau of labor statistics on Feb. 2021 the unemployment
rate was at 6.7%. In all such situation, the different organization and major
companies need to retain their talented and skilled employees or workers in
the post COVID scenario.
1. INCREASE IN WAGES OR SALARIES
Higher wages or salaries could attract talented and skillful workers or employees
in the company. it also causes stay back of employees. it may also create a
positive vibe around the workplace. as the situation due to novel corona virus is
being very harsh upon everyone, this step could motivate the workers or the
employees.
2. MODIFICATION OF TECHNIQUES
Firms, companies or organizations should improve their technical system and
should match it to the ongoing scenario of corona virus in the world. for instance,
preferring virtual meets in place of following the old offline meetings and
sanitized workspace. This may create a better chance of retaining employees
and the consequence of covid19 sure looks encouraging.
3. PROVIDING INCENTIVES
This action could mark a business as one of the most desirable business and can
also boost the motivation of the employees. For instance, properly organized
wellness programs, employee appreciation program, free or low-cost
medical facilities, offering other beneficial perks.
4.TAKING CARE OF THE PREFERENCES OF EMPLOYEES
Listening to the concern of the employees can be beneficial in the long run. This
makes the worker or the employee comfortable while engaged in the workplace.
This move can also influence the attitude of the employee towards his/her work.
5.TECHNOLOGICAL UPLIFTMENT
Revolutionized technology raise the interest of the employee and also improve
the working or the mechanism of the firm or the company. This could also
increase the number of candidates aspiring to get employed in the company.
Technological improvement can make the work more comfortable and easier.
6. PUBLIC INTERACTION PLATFORM
The long phase of lockdown during the covid19 situation had its worse effect on
the conversations and interactions between the people. Organizing the public
interaction platform can rebuild the distances formed due to lockdown and
ideas could again get exchanged.
7. ORGANIZING WELLNESS PROGRAMS
After facing the consequences of novel corona virus employees should be
mentally free, fit and relaxed and to make it happen wellness program,
including yoga, meditation sessions, etc. are very significant. This will also
lead to a fresh start after the pandemic.
